What follows is a message originally sent by the Cape's Chamber of Commerse.
If you would like to have your voice heard regarding the possibility of cuts to what
you may consider to be essential city services please attend this important meeting.
On Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 9:00 AM the city is hosting a budget workshop in
conference room 220A concerning the 2011-2012 budget. Included in those discussions
is a review by department of departmental budgets. Also, the three levels of reductions
of budgets scenario’s in the General Fund. These reductions will have a significant impact
on the level of services the citizens and businesses receive. Examples of items impacted
by the City Managers proposed cuts are:
* Turning off certain street lights
* Employee travel and training, and continuing education
* Traffic studies
* Mowing vacant lots
* Parks and recreation program cuts for Special Populations
* 4th of July Fireworks
* Public safety staff cuts
* CRA Tax increment funding
* SunSplash Waterpark subsidy
* Public works staff reductions, road striping, pothole, survey, trash pickup etc.
* Close Pops Café, Eagle Skate Park , Rotino Senior Center, Arts Studio, Four Freedoms Facility,
Lake Kennedy Senior Center, Yacht Club and pool, etc.
* Eliminate community and city sponsored events, youth programs, athletic programs, etc.
These are difficult financial times for all of us, our quality of life is being eroded, by adding these meetings citizens can help elected officials determine what is important to maintain the highest quality of life while living within our budget.
